Aquaculture has grown rapidly, and overtook production levels of wild catch in 2007. Total production has grown by 76% during 2006 to 2015, with aquaculture increasing by more than 1.7 million tonnes in this ten year period.

Vietnam is looking to expand and diversify its rapidly evolving aquaculture industry. For example, four species of sturgeon are being spawned in commercial numbers in the Vietnamese highlands where cooler waters and a more temperate climate to produce caviar, enabling aquaculture to diversify its products normally associated with a tropical climate.
